About 4,500 calories and 229 grams of fat is consumed by the average American throughout Thanksgiving Day, according to the Calorie Control Council  The key is self-control and being mindful. Here are some tips on how to do your waistline a favor and help you avoid overeating;

Eat normally throughout the day, don’t skip meals to “make room”, it will just cause you to overeat later.

Get some exercise, if just walking, before and after the meal.
Drink water, it will make you feel fuller & make you slow down when eating.
Use smaller plates.
Don’t put more on your plate than you normally would.
Instead of overloading your plate, savor your first helping.
Chew slowly, put your fork down between bites.
Engage in conversation, the more you talk the less you eat.
Be mindful of how much you really need.
Allow yourself a spoon full or two of everything you love and pass on what you don’t like.
Indulge in one worthy dessert, choose one that is worth every calorie it contains and eat it slowly.
